9/4/2001

Early morning on September 2, Venerable Mahinda from Australia visited Master Sheng-yen at Nung Chan Monastery and asked about his Chan teaching. During the visit, Ven. Mahinda replied in detail to Master Sheng-yen’s inquiry about what method of meditation he taught, and from whom he learned the method. Ven. Mahinda then asked for Master Sheng-yen’s teaching on Chan. Master Sheng-yen presented him with one of his English book, “Hoofprint of the Ox”, and welcomed him to come back and continue the discussion. Ven. Mahinda was originally from Malaysia, a Chinese descendent of the seventh generation. After he was ordained in 1976, he studied in Sri Lanka for 5 years. For years he practiced meditation in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Burma. Presently, he conducts meditation retreats in Aloka Meditation Center near Sydney, Australia.
